After years of preparation, active steps towards the introduction of mandatory electronic invoices (e-invoices) began in Macedonia in July this year. The Tax Administration of the Republic of North Macedonia (TARN), in close cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, presented a project that represents an important milestone in the digitalization of the local tax system.
Timeline for the introduction of e-invoices
January 2026 – start of the pilot phase of the project, which will involve selected companies.
Quarter 2026 – e-invoices become mandatory for all taxpayers.
Companies will have access to free applications and the possibility of API integration with their own systems, which will enable fast, secure and standardized invoicing.
Benefits for companies and the state
By introducing e-invoices, companies will be relieved of unnecessary administration:
abolition of printing, sending and archiving of paper documents,
greater control over business,
secure issuing of invoices with digital signatures,
process automation such as QR code booking and automatic payment orders.
For the state, the system will bring greater transparency, the ability to cross-check data, and more effective prevention of tax fraud and the shadow economy.
